THE WAY THROUGH / 01—04

Follow the record.
Keep your judgment.

Fore Loom gives your research a clear path without treating a guess as a discovery.

01

Import

Preview a GEDCOM you exported, or begin a new local tree.

02

Explore

Move through your family graph, people, places, facts, and sources.

03

Investigate

Look closely at possible conflicts and tentative research leads.

04

Decide

Keep, correct, or dismiss a suggestion. The record remains yours.

EVIDENCE BEFORE ASSUMPTION

A better place for the uncertain parts.

A matching name is a starting point, not proof. Fore Loom makes conflicting facts visible and leaves the conclusion with you.

01 / REVIEW WITH CONTEXT

See what needs attention. Then see why.

Built-in checks flag possible date conflicts, duplicate people, birthplace disagreements, relationship issues, and disconnected branches. The review queue points to the people and facts involved.

For possible duplicates, compare the records and their sources before a merge. Keep both values when the evidence is still unsettled. Approve, mark reviewed, or dismiss deliberately.

Change history remembers.Approved suggestions can be undone when later edits have not made that unsafe.

02 / KEEP THE DETAILS CLOSE

Record what you know. Leave room for what you don’t.

Create a local tree or preview a GEDCOM import. Keep name variants, uncertain dates, typed relationships, notes, and local media with each person. Cite sources on facts and relationships, so a detail does not lose its context.

The original GEDCOM is preserved separately from your editable tree.

03 / FOLLOW FAMILY GEOGRAPHY

See where the record leads.

Explore documented places on a map and find the people connected to them. Unresolved or ambiguous place names are gathered for review; the original recorded text stays in place unless you choose to edit it.

Optional local AI can suggest a place match through Ollama. You confirm the resolution.

PUBLIC LEADS, PRIVATE JUDGMENT

A lead is only a lead.

Start a search of selected public sources when you choose to. Fore Loom shows tentative candidates with source links and comparisons to the facts already in your tree. A candidate is added as unverified only after your approval.

Source coverage and access vary. Fore Loom has no historical-record archive of its own, and searches send the query you enter to the selected provider.

RESEARCH PRINCIPLE / 04Follow the link. Check the source. Keep the question open when the evidence is thin.

THE PRACTICAL DETAILS

A few good questions.

Can I import my existing family tree?

Yes. Fore Loom imports a GEDCOM file that you export from another service, including Ancestry. It previews the import and reports unsupported or missing data. Media referenced by a GEDCOM is not automatically downloaded.

Where does my family data live?

Tree databases and imported media live in your computer’s operating-system app data folder. You can make a local ZIP backup and restore it as a separate tree. Fore Loom has no cloud account or automatic sync.

Do I need AI or an internet connection?

No for tree editing and built-in issue checks. Optional AI explanations require Ollama and a compatible model running on your computer. Searches of outside public sources require internet access and send your chosen query to those sources.

Which computers can run it?

The preview build workflow targets Apple Silicon Macs, Intel Macs, and Windows x64 PCs. These are unsigned prototype installers; Windows packaging and broader compatibility have not completed release validation.

Can I export my tree?

You can back up a tree to a local ZIP file and restore that backup in Fore Loom. GEDCOM export is planned and is not available in the current app.
